Field Visit Report: SYBA Psychology Students’ Visit to Goonj and Neelkanth Industries

.On January 15, 2024, the SYBA Psychology students of Jai Hind College embarked on a thought-provoking field visit to Goonj and Neelkanth Industries, under the guidance of Dr. Ruchi Chaturvedi and Dr. Freyana Shinde from the Department of Psychology.

.At Goonj, an innovative NGO transforming urban waste into resources for rural communities, students were introduced to the organization’s dignity-driven initiatives like “Cloth for Work.” The unique approach of empowering individuals through sustainable solutions sparked critical discussions on psychological concepts such as self-respect, resilience, and social equity.

.The visit to Neelkanth Industries offered a contrasting yet equally enriching experience. Students observed the intricacies of assembly line production, understanding its psychological relevance in terms of teamwork, efficiency, and worker motivation. They explored how structured systems and repetitive tasks impact mental focus and productivity, linking these insights to industrial psychology concepts.

.This dual visit provided a holistic learning opportunity, bridging social and industrial psychology. While Goonj highlighted the transformative power of dignity and community-led initiatives, Neelkanth Industries showcased the importance of structured processes in achieving efficiency. Together, these experiences enriched the students’ understanding of applied psychology and its role in addressing diverse real-world challenges.
